Dogecoin Leads Major Crypto Losses Despite Potential Technical Breakout Setup

Bitcoin’s trading volume fell 13% over 24 hours, while total cryptocurrency market capitalization declined 0.43% to $2.69 trillion. Bitcoin open interest also slipped 0.44%, although Binance derivatives traders remained net long.
Cryptocurrency-related stocks also weakened: Strategy Inc. fell 2.80% and Bitmine Immersion Technologies declined 2.26%, alongside broader losses in the Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq.
Dogecoin’s spot-market flows remained favorable on Sept. 8, with buying exceeding selling by $2.92 million overall and by $3.09 million on Binance. However, open interest fell 3.36% to $1.36 billion after $4.94 million in long positions were liquidated, while the weighted funding rate stood at a positive 0.0053%.
On the four-hour chart, Dogecoin’s technical signals were mixed despite the reported breakout: RSI was neutral at 55.56, MACD showed a death cross, and the 50-period EMA near $0.09 and 200-period EMA near $0.08 were identified as immediate and deeper support levels.
FxPro analysts said Bitcoin’s current golden cross may resemble 2019 more than the failed signals of October 2024 and May 2025, noting that Bitcoin rallied about 90% in less than two months after the 2019 crossover.
Dogecoin fell more than 5% to lead major cryptocurrency losses as Bitcoin struggled to hold above $78,000. CryptoNews reported that rising Treasury yields, Middle East tensions, and crude oil surging above $100 a barrel weighed on the broader market. Despite the pullback, Dogecoin remained about 10% above its September low and was forming a potential cup-and-handle pattern that could target $0.10 if it breaks key resistance.
The crypto market saw about $390 million in mostly bullish positions liquidated overnight. Benzinga noted that Bitcoin's golden cross — a bullish technical signal — offered some hope for a broader rally. However, traders remained cautious ahead of inflation data and the Federal Reserve's next meeting, with whale holdings largely unchanged.
Dogecoin's technical setup remained attractive despite the 5% decline. The coin formed a cup-and-handle pattern that traders said could target $0.10 if it breaks resistance around $0.092–$0.0926 with stronger volume and follow-through. Support sat near $0.088–$0.09. On the four-hour chart, the RSI was neutral at 55.56, while the 50-period moving average near $0.09 and the 200-period average near $0.08 marked immediate support levels.
Spot-market flows remained favorable on September 8, with buying exceeding selling by $2.92 million overall and $3.09 million on Binance. However, open interest fell 3.36% to $1.36 billion after $4.94 million in long positions were liquidated. The weighted funding rate stood at positive 0.0053%, suggesting modest bullish positioning.
Bitcoin printed a golden cross — where the 50-day moving average crosses above the 200-day average — near $78,000. FxPro analysts said this signal resembled 2019 more than failed crossovers in October 2024 and May 2025. After the 2019 crossover, Bitcoin rallied roughly 90% in less than two months, suggesting the current setup could support a broader recovery.
Macroeconomic pressures, however, limited the immediate impact. Bitcoin's trading volume fell 13% over 24 hours, while total crypto market capitalization declined 0.43% to $2.69 trillion. Open interest slipped 0.44%, though Binance derivatives traders remained net long. Traders were awaiting inflation data and the Federal Reserve's next decision before committing fresh capital.
Crude oil above $100 a barrel raised inflation expectations and prompted traders to anticipate higher interest rates. Rising Treasury yields increased the opportunity cost of holding Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies that generate no income. Benzinga reported that Middle East tensions added to the pressure. Higher yields reduce speculative liquidity and can cap rallies even when technical signals turn bullish.
Crypto-related stocks also weakened alongside the broader market. Strategy Inc. fell 2.80% and Bitmine Immersion Technologies declined 2.26%, mirroring losses in the Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq. Ether, Solana, XRP, and BNB each dropped between 1% and 5% as investors rotated toward traditional safe havens.
A proposed bridge between Dogecoin and Solana drew warnings from security analysts. Bridged DOGE on Solana would be tokenized claims on DOGE held on the Dogecoin blockchain, not native DOGE transferred to Solana. Users would depend on third-party signers, custody arrangements, and reserve backing to redeem their coins.
A compromise of signers, inadequate reserves, or bridge failure could prevent holders from recovering underlying coins. This adds counterparty and operational risk beyond ordinary price volatility. Holders must understand they are trusting a bridge operator's security and financial health, not just market mechanics.
