Jackie Young leads gritty United States escape in tight World Cup win over Italy

The U.S. narrowly beat Italy 55-52 in the women's basketball World Cup in Berlin, marking their first test in two decades. Jackie Young led the winning effort with 10 points. The team had trailed 50-48 with 4:29 left, but managed to turn the game around with a 7-0 run. This marked their lowest point total in a preliminary-round game since 1971 against France. Italy had a chance to tie it but missed a last-minute 3-pointer. The U.K. has won 32 consecutive World Cup games, only losing to Russia in 2006.
