Former WWE Wrestler Cleared to Continue Competing on Survivor After Machete Injury

The injury was described as the loss of about a quarter of Booker’s thumb, and the doctor chose not to reattach the severed tip.
Booker said he had feared doing something careless and being pulled from the game, which made him feel like a failure; after being cleared, he said it felt like “a new life.”
After treatment, Booker said the thumb was still somewhat numb but that he could touch his fingers, clap and grab, and that he would rather feel pain than feel nothing.
Brady Booker, a 27-year-old former WWE wrestler competing on Survivor 51, accidentally sliced off the tip of his thumb with a machete while chopping wood. KOMO News reported that the show's medical team treated the injury with dressing and antibiotics, then cleared him to keep playing. Booker had feared the injury would force him out of the game.
The severed tip was roughly a quarter of his thumb, and doctors chose not to reattach it. Booker asked to keep the piece as a souvenir. After treatment, he said the injury felt like "a new life" — and his tribe went on to win both reward and immunity challenges that episode.
During a wood-chopping task, Booker's machete slipped and severed part of his thumb. KTUL reported that the show's medical crew quickly treated the wound with antibiotics and a protective dressing. The doctor determined the severed tip — about one-quarter of the thumb — could not be successfully reattached, so they left it off.
Before the injury, Booker had worried that making a careless mistake would get him pulled from the game and force him to leave as a failure. When the medical team cleared him to continue, he said the relief felt like "a new life." He asked to keep his severed thumb tip as a souvenir from the experience.
Booker reported that his thumb remained somewhat numb after treatment, but he could still touch his other fingers, clap, and grab objects. He said he would rather feel pain in the injury than feel nothing — a sign the healing was working.
Despite the gruesome accident, Booker's tribe — Toka — bounced back to win both the reward challenge and the immunity challenge that episode. NewsChannel 9 noted that the injury did not derail his performance or his team's momentum in the competition.
