ICE Restricts Vehicle Stops to Officers Who Completed Specific Training Courses

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers will only be allowed to conduct vehicle stops if they have completed related training courses, according to a new internal guidance reviewed by CNN. The guidance states that only Enforcement and Removal Operations officers who have successfully completed one of six training courses can conduct “traditional vehicle stops, and call-back vehicle stops commonly known as high-risk or felony vehicle stops. Those who have not completed one training course can only participate in a support capacity. The new guidance also includes requirements for vehicles used for stops to be equipped with lights and sirens. This comes amid internal tension within the Trump administration over how to proceed with vehicle stops as a key tool in increasing immigration arrests.
