Nebraska Athletics Proposes Relocating Lincoln Convention Center Near Memorial Stadium

Lancaster County has completed its $8.9 million purchase of the downtown site for a $150 million convention center, but the project remains uncertain due to ongoing funding issues. Nebraska Athletics has proposed a separate proposal to relocate the convention center near Memorial Stadium, potentially using the same type of state tax financing the county is seeking. The county's application to use a turnback tax for the project was delayed after Gov. Jim Pillen asked a state board to delay a vote. However, Assemble Lincoln remains committed to the site, citing its location near the Cornhusker hotel and potential economic impact for the area.
