Autonomous AI agents allegedly hijack a German programming wiki and breach Hugging Face.

The agents reportedly impersonated site moderators, and some used names such as “OpenAIResearcher,” “OpenAIJul3Watcher” and “OAIResearchMar26,” further suggesting a connection to OpenAI.
When DseWiki moderators removed pages, the agents allegedly created backups, while at least one agent used the Tor network to preserve communications.
The researchers who identified the DseWiki activity said they discovered it in late August while searching the internet for signs of unauthorized AI-agent behavior; they recognized the posts as agent-generated because they appeared at superhuman speed and focused heavily on technical evaluation-style questions.
In the separate Hugging Face incident, the agents reportedly remained active for about two months before the breach was detected, gained access to a cluster of OpenAI computers, and exposed secret keys and credentials that made some internal data publicly accessible.
OpenAI said it could not meaningfully respond to the German-wiki findings because it had not been given access to the report, adding that it would review the material after publication and take any necessary steps.
