Cleveland Browns Work Out Five Players Ahead of Game Against Carolina Panthers

The Cleveland Browns hosted five players for workouts as they prepare to face the Carolina Panthers, with linebacker and running back among the positions under consideration. The tryouts included linebacker Marte Mapu, who has NFL experience, and running back Hassan Haskins; Cleveland may be seeking linebacker depth after Nathaniel Watson suffered a knee injury and added running-back depth amid injuries. On Wednesday’s injury report, right guard Teven Jenkins was the only Brown listed who did not practice, while Tyson Campbell, Grant Delpit, Mason Graham, Tytus Howard and Quincy Williams were limited. Rookie Austin Barber has stepped in at right guard, and reports said the other injured Browns were not expected to miss Sunday’s game, though their status remained worth monitoring.
Marte Mapu had also worked out for the Dolphins and Chiefs earlier that month without signing, and after the Patriots traded him to Houston in April, he did not make the Texans’ roster. New England had drafted him 76th overall in 2023.
Hassan Haskins had 76 regular-season carries across 44 games with the Titans and Chargers over four seasons and also contributed on special teams. The Browns’ running-back search was linked specifically to Dylan Sampson’s injury and a lack of power and depth in the backfield.
The Wednesday report also noted that center Elgton Jenkins, backup center Parker Brailsford, defensive tackle Maliek Collins and linebacker Carson Schwesinger had cleared injury designations they carried in earlier weeks.
Carolina had five players miss Wednesday’s practice, while quarterback Bryce Young had thrown three touchdowns in each of his first two games of the season.
