Samsung C&T's Q2 Operating Profit Soars Past 1 Trillion Won Driven by Construction, Renewables Growth

Construction division QoQ growth: sales rose 16.9% to 3.988 trillion won and operating profit jumped 82% to 202.0 billion won, signaling a stronger ramp-up of high-tech facility work and overseas plant projects on a quarterly basis.
Pretax profit for Q2 rose 43.1% year-over-year to 1.0773 trillion won, underscoring broad profitability beyond the bottom-line improvement in operating profit.
Solar energy development contributed meaningfully to the trading/renewables mix, generating about $9.5 million in sales profits in Q2 (roughly 137.5 billion won), up by $1.4 million from a year earlier.
Samsung C&T aims to accelerate growth across renewables and semiconductor materials, expanding the value chain into solar power, energy storage systems (ESS), and new ventures in semiconductor materials, components, and equipment.
Overseas operations, including precision steel products and renewable energy projects, contributed to stable earnings, reinforcing the company’s diversified portfolio amid global uncertainty.
Samsung C&T posted a standout second quarter, with operating profit surging 37.1% year over year to top 1 trillion won — roughly $730 million. Net profit climbed even faster, jumping 73.9% to 915.5 billion won, according to Seoul Economic Daily.
Revenue hit 11.995 trillion won for the quarter, up 19.7% from a year earlier. The gains came from two main engines: a booming construction arm and a supercharged trading division, Seoul Economic Daily reported.
Samsung C&T's construction arm was a star performer. Operating profit jumped 71.2% year over year to 202.0 billion won, while sales rose 17.5% to 3.988 trillion won, according to Seoul Economic Daily. On a quarterly basis, the numbers were even more striking — operating profit leapt 82% from Q1.
The growth came from high-tech facility work and overseas plant projects ramping up at full scale, TradingView noted. The company also flagged nuclear projects as a key driver of future momentum, pointing to a strong pipeline of complex, high-value builds.
The trading division posted 4.703 trillion won in sales, up 24.5%, and operating profit of 142.0 billion won — a 77.5% jump year over year. Steel, chemicals, and fertilizers all contributed, Seoul Economic Daily reported.
Solar energy was a growing piece of the mix. Solar development generated about $9.5 million in sales profits in Q2, up $1.4 million from a year earlier. Samsung C&T also said it plans to expand into energy storage systems, semiconductor materials, and new components, according to TradingView.
The fashion division made a sharp comeback. Operating profit rose 63.6% to 54 billion won in Q2, driven by stronger consumer sentiment and better product competitiveness, Seoul Economic Daily reported.
The resort division told a different story. Sales came in at about 1.092 trillion won, but operating profit fell 11.1% as leisure demand softened. That was the one weak spot in an otherwise strong quarter for Samsung C&T.
Beyond operating profit, pretax profit rose 43.1% year over year to 1.0773 trillion won. That figure shows broad strength across the business — not just cost cuts or one-time gains, according to Seoul Economic Daily.
Samsung C&T credited its diversified portfolio for holding up well amid global uncertainty. Overseas operations — including precision steel products and renewable energy — kept earnings stable. The company said it plans to keep expanding its value chain in essential materials and clean energy, TradingView reported.
