Atlanta Dream Overcome Liberty and Gray Injury in Game One Victory

The New York Liberty's lack of postseason experience was a deciding factor in their 92-82 Game 1 victory over the Atlanta Dream. Despite being the eighth seed in the WNBA playoffs, the Dream, who had only two players with semifinals experience, performed a defensive masterclass in the win. The team's leading scorer, Allisha Gray, was ruled out in the second quarter due to a left hand injury. The Dream outscored the Liberty 32-15 in the third quarter to take a 14-point lead into the final 10 minutes. Despite a comeback in the fourth quarter, Atlanta never got rattled. The Liberty's DeWanna Bonner and Sabrina Ionescu scored a game-high 27 points and 19 points respectively.
