Hero Motors Shares Surge 39% Above IPO Price Amid Strong Market Demand

Hero Motors shares opened below their ₹84 IPO issue price on Sept. 23, at ₹82 on the NSE and ₹82.10 on the BSE, but later rose more than 17%. The stock extended its rally on Sept. 24, climbing as much as 19% to ₹116.80 on the BSE, or about 39% above the issue price, amid heavy trading while the broader market declined. The ₹1,000 crore IPO, which raised approximately $104.2 million, was subscribed 6.66 times and comprised a ₹600 crore fresh issue and a ₹400 crore offer for sale. Hero Motors plans to use the fresh proceeds to repay ₹190 crore of debt, spend ₹200 crore on capacity expansion at its Gautam Buddha Nagar facility, and pursue acquisitions and general corporate purposes. The company supplies engineered powertrain, transmission, alloy and metallic components to global and domestic automakers, including BMW, Ducati and Enviolo, and is pursuing opportunities in electric mobility and e-bike powertrains.
Hero Motors had total outstanding borrowings of ₹289.54 crore as of July 31, 2026. It plans to deploy ₹190 crore of the IPO proceeds toward repayment or prepayment, while the ₹200 crore capacity-expansion spending at Gautam Buddha Nagar is expected to be phased through FY29.
The company is also setting up two additional manufacturing facilities, in Ludhiana, Punjab, and Bengaluru, Karnataka; its post-IPO shareholding is expected to be about 61.63%.
Investor participation varied sharply across IPO categories: the qualified institutional buyer portion was subscribed 1.49 times, compared with 9.86 times for non-institutional investors and 8.23 times for retail investors. The offering received bids for 58.97 crore shares against 8.86 crore shares on offer.
Before the listing, Hero Motors raised ₹244.98 crore from anchor investors on August 15, with 2.91 crore shares allotted at ₹84 each to 16 investors.
As of March 31, 2026, Hero Motors operated six manufacturing facilities across India, the United Kingdom and Thailand, and reported operations spanning its Powertrain Solutions and Alloys & Metallics segments. Its products serve applications including off-road vehicles, electric and hybrid cars and heavy-duty vehicles, in addition to two-wheelers and e-bikes.
