San Francisco Bar Owner Arrested After Alleged Parking Dispute and Bat Attack

San Francisco bar owner Cyril Hackett, 63, was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and second-degree robbery after an alleged dispute over a parking space outside Further, a Haight Street clothing store. Employees said the argument happened earlier Friday and that Hackett returned hours later carrying a baseball bat, allegedly striking an employee and taking a jacket; surveillance footage reportedly shows a man resembling Hackett entering with a bat and removing clothing. Police said officers found probable cause for the arrest, and the investigation remains active. Hackett owns Mad Dog in the Fog and Kezar Pub; reports also identify him as owner of Murio’s Trophy Room.
The first parking dispute reportedly involved a Further employee waiting to unload a van; cellphone video was said to show Hackett backing his white BMW into the van before a heated exchange.
A friend of the employee eventually took the parking space, ending the initial standoff, and the people involved went their separate ways, according to the San Francisco Standard as reported by SFist.
Employee Drew Wood said the bat strike hit his knee and made it difficult to walk: “Just a little quick one enough to make it hard to walk now.”
Police said they were dispatched to the 1500 block of Haight Street at about 8:54 p.m. and located Hackett at another business on the same block.
