Spain Bar Collapse Injures 12 and Traps Dozens During Local Wine Festival

The bar, named Tempranillo, was taking part in the town’s Wine Fest bar route that weekend and had permission to stay open until 6 a.m.; the collapse happened at about 5:35 a.m., according to one report.
One injured person was reported to have a possible open fracture of the leg, while the other affected people were described as having minor injuries.
Building surveyors were called to assess severe structural damage to the bar and the adjoining home.
The local authority said the incident involved partial collapses at two buildings, at numbers 8 and 10 on Zumalacárregui Street.
A bar in northern Spain partially collapsed early Saturday morning, injuring at least 11 people and trapping roughly 25 to 30 inside the rubble. The floor at Bar Tempranillo in San Vicente de la Sonsierra gave way around 5:25 a.m., causing the ceiling to follow, according to Metro. About 50 people were inside the establishment during the town's Wine Fest bar route when the structure failed.
Emergency crews arrived quickly and pulled trapped victims from the debris. One person suffered a possible open fracture of the leg, while others had minor injuries, NY Post reported. The adjoining home was also damaged. Building surveyors inspected both structures at numbers 8 and 10 on Zumalacárregui Street, and police launched an investigation into what caused the collapse.
Bar Tempranillo had special permission to stay open until 6 a.m. as part of the town's Wine Fest bar route that weekend. The collapse occurred just 25 to 35 minutes before the bar was set to close, The Sun reported. This meant the venue was packed with revelers when the floor suddenly gave way, leaving dozens unable to escape immediately.
Emergency responders worked quickly to pull people from beneath collapsed debris and concrete. Between 25 and 30 people were initially trapped inside the bar when the floor and ceiling came down. Crews confirmed that all individuals were eventually extracted, with no one left trapped under the rubble by the time the search concluded.
Of the injured, nine people were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, according to The Sun. One patient required urgent care for a broken leg. Most victims suffered minor injuries from the collapse, though exact injury details for all 11 to 12 affected people were not immediately available.
Police opened a formal investigation to determine why the bar's floor and ceiling failed so suddenly. Building surveyors assessed severe structural damage to both Bar Tempranillo and the adjoining residential home. The incident involved partial collapses at two adjacent buildings on Zumalacárregui Street, complicating the initial assessment of what went wrong.
