New York Knicks Debate Potential White House Visit Amid Conflicting Reports

The New York Knicks are still deciding whether to visit the White House after winning the 2026 NBA championship, despite owner James Dolan saying the team had accepted President Donald Trump’s invitation. Coach Mike Brown said the organization is discussing the invitation internally and will make a decision together; guard Jalen Brunson has also said the team had not yet discussed it. The delayed decision has drawn attention because Dolan is close to Trump and because NBA champions have not visited the White House during Trump’s presidency. The team has not announced a decision or timetable.
President Trump attended Game 3 of the Finals at Madison Square Garden as James Dolan’s guest; the game was the Knicks’ only Finals loss, and his attendance was accompanied by security chaos.
If the Knicks visit, they would be the first NBA champions to visit President Trump during either of his presidential terms. The Boston Celtics were the last NBA champions to visit the White House, in 2024; the Oklahoma City Thunder later cited a “timing issue” for not stopping during a Washington trip.
The Knicks are scheduled to play the Washington Wizards on December 18 and March 16, offering possible opportunities to make a White House visit during a trip to the capital.
A Vanity Fair article reportedly claimed the Knicks had turned down the invitation, but a government official disputed the report, calling it “fake news.”
