Apple Confirms September 9 Event With iPhone 18 Pro Upgrades Expected

Apple’s first foldable smartphone, reportedly branded the iPhone Ultra, could debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models, although Apple has not confirmed it.
The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to have a 6.3-inch OLED display and the Pro Max a 6.9-inch OLED display, with both reportedly supporting 120Hz refresh rates.
The Pro models are rumored to receive a 24-megapixel front-facing camera, while some reports also suggest under-display Face ID and new colors such as Sky Blue, Burgundy and Pure Black.
Apple’s September 9 event is scheduled for 10 a.m. Pacific time at Apple Park and will be livestreamed through Apple’s website and social-media platforms; the date falls on a Wednesday because of the U.S. Labor Day holiday weekend.
The event may include products beyond the iPhone, including the Apple Watch 12 and a new HomePad, while Apple’s new CEO, John Ternus, is expected to host the presentation.
Apple has confirmed a "Surprise and shine" event for September 9, 2026, expected to showcase the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, though the company has not revealed specific products or prices. Wired reports the event will likely skip the standard iPhone 18 models, focusing instead on premium devices with rumored upgrades including Apple's custom C2 modem, three 48-megapixel rear cameras, and a variable aperture for better light control.
The Pro Max is expected to feature a 6.9-inch OLED display, while the Pro model gets a 6.3-inch screen, both supporting 120Hz refresh rates. Reports also suggest Apple may launch its first foldable smartphone, branded the iPhone Ultra, alongside the Pro lineup, though Apple has made no official announcement.
Both iPhone 18 Pro models are rumored to feature three 48-megapixel rear cameras and a 24-megapixel front-facing camera. A variable or mechanical aperture on the main camera would physically adjust to control light and depth of field, improving low-light performance and background separation. WDCNEWS6 notes Apple is expected to introduce significant design enhancements across the Pro lineup.
The Dynamic Island cutout is expected to shrink on both Pro models, giving users more screen space. Reports suggest Apple will offer new colors including Sky Blue, Burgundy, and Pure Black. Some leaks also hint at under-display Face ID technology, though Apple has not confirmed this feature.
The standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18 Plus will likely arrive months later, not at the September event. HiTechHub indicates Apple's new CEO, Tim Cook, may delay these affordable models to 2027 to focus supply on higher-margin Pro devices. This staggered launch extends the upgrade cycle and allows Apple to manage production of its new components more carefully.
Reports estimate the iPhone 18 Pro Max could cost roughly ₹1.55 lakh to ₹1.70 lakh in India. Pre-orders are expected to begin September 12 if announcements happen on September 9. Apple's event will take place at 10 a.m. Pacific time at Apple Park and will be livestreamed online.
Beyond the iPhone Pro models, the September 9 event may feature the Apple Watch 12 and a new HomePad, though Apple has not confirmed these products. Apple's new CEO, John Ternus, is expected to host the presentation. RSWebSols reports the company is developing an iPhone Ultra with significant design changes to mark the device's 20th anniversary in 2027, though the final design remains uncertain.
