Vijay Won’t Promote Son’s Debut Film Sigma

Sigma follows a lone-wolf treasure hunter who faces traps, riddles, unpredictable allies and high-stakes heists while challenging societal expectations.
The film’s creative team includes S Thaman as music composer and Krishnan Vasant as cinematographer; the cast also includes Raju Sundaram, Sampath Raj, Shiv Panditt, Anbu Thasan and Yog Japee.
Sigma was initially scheduled for July 31, 2026, before being postponed to October 2; it had been expected to coincide with a re-release of Vijay and Trisha Krishnan’s Thirupaachi, though that re-release was reportedly pushed back.
Jason said he was happy when Vijay became Tamil Nadu chief minister, calling it “a very happy moment for me and everyone around him.”
Jason has said Vijay’s long career influenced his decision to pursue filmmaking: “I have been to sets from a young age, so I was able to normalise that feeling,” he said, adding that he had seen his father working in the profession for many years.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay will not promote his son Jason Sanjay's directorial debut film Sigma, according to Jason himself. Indian Express reports that Vijay wants the campaign to focus on the film itself rather than their family connection. Vijay is eager to watch the movie but his government responsibilities limit his public involvement in the promotion.
Sigma, an action-adventure heist comedy starring Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah, releases October 2, 2026. The film was originally scheduled for July 31 before being postponed. Jason said he may consider acting after the film's release and credits his father's fans as a major gift for the project.
Jason Sanjay grew up on film sets watching his father's decades-long acting career. Indian New England notes that being around the industry from a young age helped him feel comfortable pursuing filmmaking. Jason said seeing his father work in the profession for many years inspired him to direct. When Vijay became Tamil Nadu chief minister, Jason called it "a very happy moment for me and everyone around him."
Sigma follows a lone-wolf treasure hunter who confronts dangerous traps, riddles, unpredictable allies, and major heists. Filmfare reports the film stars Sundeep Kishan as an unlikely protagonist drawn into a high-stakes heist. The cast includes Faria Abdullah, Raju Sundaram, Sampath Raj, Shiv Panditt, Anbu Thasan, and Yog Japee. S Thaman composed the music while Krishnan Vasant handled cinematography.
Director SS Rajamouli launched Sigma's official trailer, calling it a fun ride. Great Andhra reports the film is an action-adventure set in the worlds of drugs and gambling, with a Rs 500 crore central objective. News Today Net describes the trailer as promising a heist drama with high stakes. The movie is backed by Lyca Productions, a major film production company.
Vijay's decision not to promote Sigma reflects two practical concerns. His role as Tamil Nadu chief minister demands full attention to government duties. Jason explained that keeping Vijay away from promotions also lets audiences focus on the film's story and characters, not on the director's famous parent. This strategy allows Sigma to stand on its own merits rather than rely on star power or family connections.
