Former Michigan Attorney Convicted of Attempted Murder Following Toledo Restaurant Attack

Matthew Exton, a former attorney from Traverse City, Michigan, has been convicted of attempted murder and two counts of felonious assault by a Lucas County Common Pleas Court jury. Exton admitted to pointing his gun at his ex-wife in a Toledo restaurant and faces up to 25 years in prison when sentenced on Sept. 21. The incident occurred on April 11, 2025, at the Sabira restaurant in Toledo. Prosecutors alleged that Exton had ordered a drink at the bar and sent it to his ex's table before returning with a gun. He claimed he was trying to expedite the sale of their former home in Traverse city so he could receive his portion of proceeds.
