Toronto Stock Exchange and Montréal Exchange to Close for Labour Day Holiday

Canada's major stock exchanges will close on September 7, 2026 for Labour Day. County Market confirmed that the Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange, TSX Alpha Exchange, and Montréal Exchange will all shut down. Regular trading resumes the next day on September 8.
Four major Canadian exchanges operated by TMX Group will close for Labour Day. Woodstock Sentinel-Review reported the shutdown includes the Toronto Stock Exchange (the main market for large companies), TSX Venture Exchange (for smaller, emerging firms), TSX Alpha Exchange (a smaller marketplace), and the Montréal Exchange (which handles options and futures contracts).
All four exchanges will reopen for normal trading hours on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. Northern News noted there will be no trading activity on Monday, September 7. Investors and traders should plan accordingly for the one-day market closure.
TMX Group runs far more than just stock exchanges in Canada. Owen Sound Sun Times reported the company also operates the Canadian Depository for Securities (which holds stock certificates), Canadian Derivatives Clearing Corporation (which clears trades), and TMX Australia Exchange. Additional operations include TS Trust, TMX Trayport, TMX Datalinx, TMVX VettaFi, and TMX Newsfile.
Traders and investors should note the Labour Day closure when planning trades or waiting for settlement. Fort McMurray Today emphasized that while stock trading halts on September 7, all markets resume normal operations the following day. This is a standard annual holiday for Canadian financial markets.
