Penta Seeks Roman Reigns Title Rematch Following Record WWE Raw Match

Penta’s September 14 match against Roman Reigns in Mexico City drew one of WWE Raw’s strongest audiences of the year, prompting reports that people inside WWE are reassessing his star power. Reigns defeated Penta to retain the World Heavyweight Championship, and Penta later called the match one of the biggest nights of his life, praised Reigns as the best wrestler in the world, and said he wants a rematch. On the following Raw, Penta reiterated that their story was not over and stood up to Judgment Day after Dominik Mysterio challenged his claim to a future title opportunity. Penta also qualified for the Money in the Bank ladder match, while Reigns is set to defend his title against LA Knight at the event, making an immediate rematch unlikely.
Dave Meltzer reported that the Mexico City Raw was WWE’s second-most-watched Raw of the year, narrowly surpassing the post-Royal Rumble episode. He said it aired against a Monday Night Football game with 23.2 million viewers and that the match drew audiences in countries where WWE is not usually as popular.
Penta qualified for Money in the Bank after being added as a surprise entrant to a triple-threat match against Dragon Lee and Dominik Mysterio. He replaced Solo Sikoa, who had been abducted by Royce Keys’ 946 faction, and will join United States Champion Trick Williams, Je’Von Evans, and Bron Breakker in the ladder match.
During the Raw confrontation with Judgment Day, Penta disputed Dominik Mysterio’s claim to be the “king of the luchadors,” saying Rey Mysterio deserved the title. The argument turned physical, and Penta fought off Dominik and JD McDonagh before taking them out with a diving crossbody.
