Assam Rifles Soldier Killed and Four Injured in Arunachal Pradesh Ambush

An Assam Rifles patrol came under suspected militant fire around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday near Nampong Nallah in Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh, along the India-Myanmar border, in an area where border fencing is under way. Havildar Jankhokai Kuki, 42, was killed and four personnel were injured and evacuated for treatment; their condition was not immediately known. Preliminary reports pointed to the NSCN (K-YA), but authorities had not confirmed the attackers’ identity. Security forces intensified operations and vigilance in the area.
The patrol team belonged to the 21 Assam Rifles.
Changlang Superintendent of Police Kirli Padu said police had received information about the incident and directed the officer-in-charge of Changlang police station to collect further details.
At the time the articles were published, an official statement from the Assam Rifles was still awaited.
One report identified NSCN-K-YA as the Yung Aung faction, while another described it as a Naga insurgent group operating along the India-Myanmar border.
