Rivian Q2 Revenue Jumps 27%, Losses Narrow as Strong R2 Demand Boosts Forecast

In Q2, Rivian delivered 12,194 vehicles, up from 10,365 in Q1, with the company also pursuing capacity expansion via a second Georgia plant that is expected to add up to 300,000 units of annual capacity for R2 and future models.
R2 Launch Edition demand is running meaningfully higher than Rivian’s internal projections, suggesting stronger-than-expected early demand for the new SUV.
R2 external deliveries began on June 9, marking the transition to ramping the new model beyond internal testing.
Automotive revenue rose 23% to about $1.14 billion, while software and services revenue climbed 37% to roughly $515 million; gross profit expanded by $385 million year over year to $179 million.
CEO RJ Scaringe described the R2 as a game changer for Rivian’s long-term growth and profitability, underscoring the strategic importance of the new model.
Rivian posted Q2 2026 revenue of $1.66 billion, a 27% jump from a year ago, as the company's new R2 SUV began reaching customers and losses continued to shrink, according to Yahoo Finance. The electric truck maker raised its full-year delivery target to 65,000–70,000 vehicles after demand for the R2 Launch Edition came in well above internal expectations.
The company reported a net loss of $837 million and an adjusted EBITDA loss of $379 million for the quarter. Gross profit hit $179 million — a $385 million improvement from Q2 2025. Rivian ended the quarter with about $5.3 billion in cash and equivalents.
Rivian started external R2 deliveries on June 9. That alone was a milestone. But what surprised management was how fast demand built. R2 Launch Edition conversions ran meaningfully higher than the company's own projections, TipRanks reported. CEO RJ Scaringe called the R2 a "game changer" for Rivian's long-term growth and profitability.
Rivian also logged a record 57,000-plus demo drives in the quarter. That number matters because demo drives often convert to sales. The company said the R2 is pulling in new EV buyers — people who never owned an electric car before — as well as customers switching from other brands.
Rivian delivered 12,194 vehicles in Q2, up from 10,365 in Q1. Automotive revenue rose 23% to about $1.14 billion, Wards Auto reported. Software and services revenue climbed 37% to roughly $515 million. That software number is important — it carries higher margins than selling cars and helps offset vehicle-level losses.
Regulatory credits also added to revenue in the quarter. Together, vehicles, software, and credits pushed total Q2 revenue to $1.66 billion. The company beat analyst expectations, Yahoo Finance noted, giving investors confidence that the growth is real and not just a one-quarter spike.
To keep up with R2 demand, Rivian is building a second plant in Georgia. The new facility is expected to add up to 300,000 units of annual production capacity for the R2 and future models. That would be a massive leap from current output levels. Rivian produced its first vehicles at its Normal, Illinois plant, which has a far smaller ceiling.
The Georgia expansion shows Rivian is betting big on the R2 as its volume driver. With an entry price around $58,000, the R2 sits well below Rivian's R1T truck and R1S SUV, which start higher and target a more premium buyer. A lower price opens a much larger pool of potential customers, Aktiensensor noted.
Rivian's loss of $36 million on an operating basis compares to a $335 million loss in Q2 2025, Wards Auto reported. That is a sharp improvement. But the net loss of $837 million shows the company is still spending heavily — on factories, on engineering, and on building out its sales and service network.
Shares rose after the report, a sign Wall Street liked what it heard. But the stock is still down for the year. Investors are weighing a clear improvement in the business against the reality that Rivian is still burning cash. With $5.3 billion in reserves, the company has time. How fast it closes the gap to profitability is the next big test.
