ENTOD Pharmaceuticals Secures Patent for Preclinical Topical Insulin Eye Drops to Aid Corneal Repair

ENTOD Pharmaceuticals has secured a patent for topical insulin eye drops being developed as a potential treatment to promote corneal cell growth, repair damaged tissue and possibly support corneal nerve health. The treatment remains in the pre-clinical stage, and additional laboratory and clinical studies are needed to establish its safety, effectiveness and appropriate uses. Researchers say the approach could offer a novel ophthalmic therapy with primarily local effects and limited impact on systemic blood-glucose levels, but its therapeutic value has not yet been proven. The company described the patent as evidence of India’s expanding capacity for original pharmaceutical research beyond generic drug production.
