Blue Capital Inc. quietly built out a broad new set of positions in the first quarter, snapping up stakes in five different investments ranging from energy stocks to travel and small-cap ETFs. The firm's largest new bet was on Suncor Energy (SU), with 52,451 shares valued at around $3.47 million — now its 9th largest holding at roughly 2.3% of its total portfolio, according to Watchlist News.
The moves show Blue Capital spreading its exposure across sectors, from industrial giant Parker-Hannifin to the online travel platform Expedia Group. Together, the five new positions add millions in fresh capital across equities and ETFs.
Blue Capital's biggest new position is in Suncor Energy (SU), the Canadian oil sands producer. The firm bought 52,451 shares worth about $3.47 million. Suncor opened Friday at $55.02, well below its 50-day moving average of $62.51. The stock's debt-to-equity ratio sits at just 0.20, a sign the company carries relatively little debt compared to its assets.
The second-largest new position is in Parker-Hannifin (PH), a maker of motion and control technology. Blue Capital picked up 2,697 shares worth roughly $2.41 million, making it the 23rd largest holding at about 1.6% of the portfolio. PH opened Friday at $963.45. Over the past 12 months, the stock has swung between a low of $692.02 and a high of $1,034.96. The company's market cap stands at around $121.48 billion.
Blue Capital also added two exchange-traded funds, or ETFs — baskets of stocks that spread risk across many companies. It bought 14,333 shares of the Invesco S&P 500 Equal Weight ETF (RSP), valued at about $2.75 million. That makes RSP the 19th largest holding at roughly 1.8% of the portfolio. Notably, RSP is 61.18% owned by hedge funds and other big institutional investors.
The firm also opened a position in the SPDR S&P 600 Small Cap Value ETF (SLYV), buying 23,394 shares worth about $2.21 million. SLYV focuses on smaller U.S. companies that look undervalued. The ETF opened Friday at $108.06, above both its 50-day moving average of $104.59 and its 200-day moving average of $99.24 — a sign of recent upward momentum.
Blue Capital's fifth new position is in Expedia Group (EXPE), the online travel company. The firm bought 2,929 shares valued at roughly $676,000, making it the smallest of the five new stakes. According to Watchlist News, it marks a fresh entry into the consumer travel space for the fund.
There is also fresh insider activity to watch at Expedia. Robert J. Dzielak, a company insider, sold 4,702 shares on June 5. Insider sales don't always signal bad news, but investors often track them as a clue about how top executives feel about a stock's short-term outlook.
Beyond the five headline positions, Blue Capital has also been active in biotech. The firm acquired 16,478 shares of Exelixis, Inc. (EXEL) in the first quarter, worth approximately $707,000, according to Ticker Report. Exelixis is a biotechnology company, and the move hints at Blue Capital's appetite for higher-risk, higher-reward health care plays alongside its more stable ETF holdings.
