BBC Match of the Day presenters Mark Chapman and Kelly Cates are reportedly dating, Manchester Evening News reported. Chapman split from his girlfriend Clere Collier in April after three years together. Collier allegedly questioned whether Chapman and Cates had become involved before the breakup, though Chapman has denied any overlap and said there was no infidelity.
The pair became close while working together on the BBC sports show and appearing on Celebrity Gogglebox, Daily Mail reported. Cates previously split from TV producer Tom in 2021 and has two children. Chapman was married to Sara for 19 years until her death from cancer in 2020 at age 44.
Chapman ended his relationship with Dubai-based estate agent Clere Collier in April after three years of dating, Yahoo News reported. Collier had traveled regularly from Dubai to see Chapman, and the couple had been pictured house-hunting together the previous year. The breakup came amid questions from Collier about the nature of Chapman's relationship with Cates.
Chapman acknowledged the new relationship with Cates but denied any wrongdoing in his previous relationship, GB News reported. He insisted there was no overlap between his time with Collier and his relationship with Cates, and that he had not been unfaithful. The claims have not been independently confirmed.
Chapman and Cates grew closer through their work as co-hosts on the BBC One sports show, AOL reported. Their chemistry developed naturally as they worked together on the popular football program. Cates has described her experience with the Match of the Day team as "genuinely really exciting," saying "I feel like I'm in a great little group."
Cates ended her relationship with TV producer Tom in 2021 and has two children from that partnership, Daily Mail reported. She has since found companionship with Chapman as both have navigated heartbreak in their personal lives. The relationship represents a new chapter for both presenters after difficult periods.
