Novak Djokovic wins his 102nd career title after Alex de Minaur retires injured.

Novak Djokovic won a record-extending seventh China Open title after Alex de Minaur retired early in the second set of the final. Djokovic took the first set 7-6 in a tiebreak, after which both players received medical attention; de Minaur, treated for a groin injury, held serve to open the second set before retiring. The victory was Djokovic’s 102nd tour-level title, bringing him within one of Roger Federer’s total and extending his unbeaten China Open record to 34-0. The Beijing title also improved his position in the race for a place at the ATP Finals.
Djokovic did not face a match point in either the semi-final or the final; his semi-final ended when Daniil Medvedev was disqualified for hitting a spectator with a ball.
The Beijing win extended Djokovic’s remarkable run of winning at least one title in 21 consecutive years.
De Minaur apologized to the crowd after retiring, saying, “I didn’t want to finish like this, so I’m really sorry.”
