Two suspects arrested as police raid illegal counterfeit juice packaging operation in Kabete.

The two suspects were identified as Alex Mwaruta and James Munala Inyangala.
The approximately 1,400 filled bottles were in 200 ml and 300 ml sizes.
The DCI warned the alleged operation could also deprive the government of tax revenue, in addition to endangering consumers and undermining legitimate manufacturers.
The raid formed part of a broader crackdown: the Anti-Counterfeit Authority had warned in June of nationwide action against fake goods, while DCI detectives raided a Kasarani godown in September over alleged maize-flour repackaging; Deputy President Kithure Kindiki also called for intensified action against illicit alcohol.
Detectives arrested two men in Kabete after raiding a homestead used to produce counterfeit juice. DCI said officers found about 1,400 bottles of suspected juice in 200 ml and 300 ml sizes, along with empty bottles, caps, drums, and expired brand certificates. Business Today Kenya reported the suspects were identified as Alex Mwaruta and James Munala Inyangala.
The raid uncovered materials including glue, stamps, ink, stickers, and unidentified powdery and liquid substances. Radiokaya warned that counterfeit beverages made in unregulated conditions pose serious health risks, harm legitimate businesses, and deprive the government of tax revenue. The suspects remain in custody while investigations continue.
Acting on information from a member of the public, DCI detectives moved in on the Muthua homestead. Uzalendonews reported officers dismantled the clandestine operation and secured all materials as evidence. Crime-scene officers documented the seized items, which included production equipment and packaging supplies.
DCI warned that fake drinks manufactured in unregulated home settings threaten public health. Business Today Kenya noted the operation could introduce harmful substances into the supply chain. Authorities say counterfeit beverages bypass safety inspections and quality standards that protect consumers from contamination.
This bust is part of a wider enforcement push. Radiokaya noted the Anti-Counterfeit Authority warned of nationwide action against fake goods in June. Tuko reported DCI also raided a Kasarani warehouse in September over alleged maize-flour repackaging, while Deputy President Kithure Kindiki called for intensified efforts against illicit alcohol.
