Manchester United consider January striker signing amid recurring fitness concerns for Benjamin Sesko

Manchester United face fitness concerns over both Benjamin Sesko and Bruno Fernandes. Sesko has suffered a recurrence of a shin injury and missed United’s match against Fulham and Slovenia’s international duty; Slovenia coach Bostjan Cesar called it an “atypical injury” that needs time and rehabilitation, but no return date has been confirmed. Reports say the uncertainty could lead United to consider signing another striker in January. Fernandes, meanwhile, reportedly told Portugal’s coach he had played through pain in recent United games before being substituted against Wales, and the coach said he would avoid risking him in Portugal’s next match.
Sesko’s shin problem first forced him off at half-time against Liverpool in May, causing him to miss the final three matches of the 2025/26 season. He rehabilitated over the summer and missed pre-season before the latest relapse.
Before his latest setback, Sesko had made only four Premier League substitute appearances this season, totaling 76 minutes. Last season, he scored 11 league goals, including five in a seven-game stretch.
Sesko has also dealt with a knee problem, and he had not played for Slovenia in more than a year because of fitness issues, according to FootballTransfers.
