Detalus Advisors Actively Rebalances Portfolio, Boosting Aerospace and Municipal Bond ETFs

Detalus's position in Invesco Aerospace & Defense ETF (PPA) is reported as the 12th largest holding, representing about 1.6% of the portfolio with 43,266 shares worth roughly $7.17 million after a 9,978-share add-on.
The iShares Long-Term National Muni Bond ETF (LMUB) position was launched in March 2025, and Detalus's stake of 166,954 shares amounts to about $8.34 million, making it roughly 1.9% of the portfolio and its 11th largest position.
Detalus added to iShares Short Duration Bond Active ETF (NEAR) by acquiring 10,000 shares for about $508,000, with NEAR described as an actively managed fund focused on very short-maturity, investment-grade fixed income.
Detalus reduced its stake in SPDR Nuveen ICE Short Term Municipal Bond ETF (SHM) by 19% to 52,721 shares valued at roughly $2.522 million (0.07% of the ETF), while other funds also shifted SHM positions significantly, e.g., Janney Montgomery Scott LLC increased its SHM stake by about 568% to 70,349 shares ($3.365 million).
Detalus Advisors LLC made a bold bet on long-term municipal bonds and aerospace defense in the first quarter of 2026, reshuffling millions of dollars across four ETFs. The St. Louis-based firm grew its total 13F assets by 6.7% to $437.87 million, according to Holdings Channel.
The biggest move was a brand-new $8.34 million stake in the iShares Long-Term National Muni Bond ETF (LMUB). At the same time, the firm added to its aerospace position and quietly trimmed its short-term municipal bond exposure, signaling a deliberate shift in how it manages risk.
Detalus launched a fresh position in LMUB in March 2026, buying 166,954 shares worth about $8.34 million. That instantly made LMUB the firm's 11th largest holding, equal to roughly 1.9% of its total portfolio, according to Fintel.
LMUB tracks long-term, tax-exempt U.S. municipal bonds. Moving into long-term bonds is a classic strategy when managers believe interest rates have peaked. By locking in yields now, a firm can gain more in capital appreciation if rates fall later. Detalus sold down its short-term municipal position at the same time, reinforcing that this was a deliberate duration shift — not a random trade.
Detalus added 9,978 shares to its Invesco Aerospace and Defense ETF (PPA) position during Q1, bringing its total to 43,266 shares valued at roughly $7.17 million. That 30% increase pushed PPA to the 12th largest holding in the portfolio, representing about 1.6% of total assets, according to Fintel.
The move tracks broader institutional enthusiasm for the defense sector. Global defense spending hit record highs in early 2026, driven by prolonged regional conflicts. Seeking Alpha noted that PPA's 2025 outperformance was fueled by "accelerating price momentum" tied to geopolitical tensions. PPA's total market value reached $8.1 billion by June 2026, per Invesco.
Detalus sold 12,388 shares of the SPDR Nuveen ICE Short Term Municipal Bond ETF (SHM), cutting its stake by 19%. It now holds 52,721 shares worth about $2.52 million. The reduction pairs directly with the LMUB purchase — rotating from short to long duration on the municipal bond curve.
But Detalus did not abandon the short end entirely. It bought 10,000 shares of iShares Short Duration Bond Active ETF (NEAR) for about $508,000, according to Ticker Report. NEAR is actively managed, meaning professional fund managers pick short-maturity, investment-grade bonds rather than following a fixed index. That flexibility appears to be exactly what Detalus wanted on the short end of its fixed-income book.
Not everyone read the municipal market the same way. While Detalus cut SHM, Janney Montgomery Scott LLC went the other direction — increasing its SHM stake by 568% to 70,349 shares worth about $3.37 million, according to MarketBeat. That is a direct disagreement on where short-term rates are headed.
Morningstar also issued a Negative Medalist Rating on PPA in April 2026, warning that its model-driven strategy may not outperform peers on a risk-adjusted basis over a full market cycle. Detalus, for its part, frames its investing philosophy around "steering a steady course" through disciplined due diligence — a nod to the firm's Icarus-and-Daedalus-inspired branding.
