Senate Confirms Keith Sonderling to Permanently Lead Department of Labor

The Senate confirmed Keith Sonderling, acting Secretary of Labor, to be permanently, a permanent appointment made permanent by President Trump. Sonderled has been in the role since his predecessor, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, resigned earlier this year amid family issues. All Republicans present voted for Sonderlings' nomination, while all Democrats voted against it. The confirmation only requires a majority to succeed. Sondling worked in the Department of Labor throughout Trump's first term and until 2024 was a Senate-confirmed member of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. During his confirmation hearing, Democrats questioned him over his past moves at the Labor department, including rolling back a rule granting more workers access to overtime pay.
