Netflix Confirms The Watcher Season 2 Production Will Begin in New York This Fall

Netflix renewed The Watcher on Nov. 7, 2022, but the series remained dormant while Monster moved ahead and released three additional seasons; the delay followed Ryan Murphy’s departure from Netflix after his overall deal ended.
The announced returning cast does not include Luke David Blumm, who played the Brannocks’ son Carter in Season 1. Deadline also noted that Maureen’s return raises a story question because she was diagnosed with terminal cancer at the end of Season 1.
The series was inspired by the case of Derek and Maria Broaddus. Naomi Watts said the unresolved mystery felt like an “indictment of the American Dream,” and that the cast was never told who the Watcher was.
Before the production update, co-creator Ian Brennan said he was writing Season 2 but could not reveal details; Seth Gabel, who played Andrew Pierce, said he was trying to get involved, joking, “I’ve got ideas!”
Netflix is moving ahead with Season 2 of *The Watcher* after a four-year wait, with production scheduled to begin this fall in New York, Outlook India reported. Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, Margo Martindale, and Isabel Gravitt will return to reprise their roles as the Brannock family members caught in a supernatural mystery.
The renewal came in November 2022, just a month after Season 1 premiered, but the project stalled while co-creator Ryan Murphy's overall deal with Netflix ended and his other series *Monster* moved forward instead, iHorror noted. Netflix has not announced the new season's plot, premiere date, or additional cast members.
*The Watcher* Season 1 dramatized the true story of the Broaddus family, who received threatening letters after moving into their dream home in New Jersey. The show never revealed who was sending the letters—the "Watcher" remained a mystery throughout. Naomi Watts said the unresolved ending felt like an "indictment of the American Dream," and the cast was never told the identity of the Watcher.
Luke David Blumm, who played Carter Brannock in Season 1, is not listed among the returning cast for Season 2, Deadline noted. Additionally, Margo Martindale's return as Maureen raises a story question: her character was diagnosed with terminal cancer at the end of Season 1. Fans will have to wait for the new season to understand how the show handles her arc.
Co-creator Ian Brennan said he has been writing Season 2 but cannot reveal plot details yet, Times of India reported. Actor Seth Gabel, who played Andrew Pierce in Season 1, told fans he is trying to get involved in the new season and joked, "I've got ideas!" The writers and producers are keeping the mystery alive—literally.
