Amgen tests experimental obesity drug that blocks a specific gut hormone

Amgen Inc. researchers have found a clue to the mystery of why a drug can help people lose weight when activating the same hormone appears to work. The company is currently testing an obesity therapy that mimics the GLP-1 hormone while blocks another gut hormone called GIP. Eli Lilly & Co.’s blockbuster Zepbound, the current leader in the field, activates both hormones. Amgen is working on an obesity drug that mimicks the GLp-1 and GIP, and is seeking to find a solution.
