Octagon Capital Adjusts Biotech Portfolio in Q1, Trimming Kymera and Gossamer While Boosting Precision BioSciences

Kymera remains Octagon's 8th biggest holding, representing about 3.9% of the portfolio and roughly 0.52% of Kymera Therapeutics, with an implied value around $35.4 million after the first-quarter trim.
Precision BioSciences: Octagon raised its stake by 16.6% to 2,236,732 shares, making it about 1.4% of the portfolio and the 21st-largest holding, with a disclosed value around $12.302 million.
BridgeBio Oncology Therapeutics: Octagon cut its stake by 31.1% to 719,000 shares, roughly 0.7% of the portfolio and about $6.435 million, ranking as the 24th-largest holding.
Gossamer Bio: Octagon reduced exposure by 44.3% to 7,750,000 shares (about 0.3% of the portfolio, roughly $2.55 million), and Renaissance Technologies boosted its Gossamer stake by about 84.8% in the first quarter as a contrasting move among big investors.
Octagon Capital Advisors LP trimmed several biotech positions in the first quarter, cutting stakes in Kymera Therapeutics, BridgeBio Oncology Therapeutics, and Gossamer Bio while adding to Precision BioSciences. The moves signal a selective reshuffling inside one of the firm's biotech-heavy portfolios, according to Watchlist News.
The disclosures paint a mixed picture. Octagon is not exiting biotech broadly — it is picking winners and trimming losers, adjusting exposure name by name across multiple holdings.
Octagon slashed its Kymera Therapeutics stake by 20.6%, leaving 425,000 shares in the portfolio. Kymera is still the firm's 8th-largest holding. It makes up about 3.9% of the total portfolio and roughly 0.52% of Kymera's outstanding shares. The implied value sits around $35.4 million after the trim.
BridgeBio Oncology Therapeutics took a harder cut. Octagon reduced that position by 31.1%, down to 719,000 shares. The holding is now worth roughly $6.4 million, or about 0.7% of the portfolio. It ranks as the firm's 24th-largest position.
Gossamer Bio suffered the steepest cut of the quarter. Octagon reduced its exposure by 44.3%, leaving 7,750,000 shares. That stake is now worth only about $2.55 million — just 0.3% of the portfolio.
Not everyone agreed with Octagon's move. Renaissance Technologies went the other direction, boosting its own Gossamer Bio stake by roughly 84.8% in the same quarter. The split shows how differently major investors read the same stock.
While most biotech names in Octagon's book got trimmed, Precision BioSciences was a clear exception. The firm raised its stake by 16.6% to 2,236,732 shares. The position is now worth about $12.3 million and ranks as the 21st-largest holding, making up around 1.4% of the portfolio.
Beyond the headline cuts, Octagon also reduced its stake in Trevi Therapeutics by 47.2% in the first quarter, per Watchlist News. That left the firm holding 1,485,000 shares of the NASDAQ-listed company. The move fits a clear pattern: Octagon pulled back broadly across smaller biotech names in Q1.
Taken together, the first-quarter disclosures show a firm tightening its biotech exposure in most places while keeping a few selective bets intact. The Precision BioSciences add stands out as the lone clear conviction buy of the period.
