Ravens-Cowboys Thriller in Rio De Janeiro Sets NFL International Viewership Record

Baltimore’s 34-31 win over Dallas in Rio de Janeiro, sealed by Tyler Loop’s 56-yard field goal as time expired, set a record as the most-watched NFL international game. CBS and several reports put the average audience at about 24.9 million, while ESPN reported 29.9 million; reports said viewership topped 30 million late in the game. The matchup also became CBS’s most-watched Week 3 game since 2014. Its late-afternoon U.S. time slot, enabled by Brazil’s proximity to Eastern time, helped make the game more accessible to American viewers than many overseas broadcasts. The record comes as the NFL expands its international schedule, with nine games planned across four continents and seven countries this season.
Rio’s Maracanã Stadium hosted its first NFL regular-season game; the league has committed to holding at least three regular-season games in Rio over five years.
The game drew a sellout crowd of 79,792, and more than 88% of ticket buyers were Brazilian.
The Rio matchup was available to viewers on Paramount+ and NFL+ as well as CBS.
The Rio game surpassed two recent international-game audience marks: the 49ers-Rams game in Melbourne and last year’s Chargers-Chiefs game in Brazil each averaged 18.5 million U.S. viewers.
