Voters head to the polls across five assembly seats in high-stakes by-elections.

Voting proceeded in the Dharapuram Assembly by-election as TVK candidate P. Sathyabama and AIADMK candidate K. Bhanumathi cast their ballots and each predicted victory. Bhanumathi reported strong turnout, especially in rural areas, praised election officials and said her party had alerted flying squads to reports of money and gifts being distributed. She also cited a viral claim that TVK spent 35 crore rupees on the campaign, while saying she had not watched the video about Sathyabama. Sathyabama said the video concerning her had been distorted and dismissed it as an attempt to undermine her prospects, asserting she would win by one lakh votes.
Polling began at 7 a.m., with voters turning out in large numbers in the early hours.
The Dharapuram by-election was described as the first major electoral test for Chief Minister and TVK leader Vijay after the party formed the Tamil Nadu government.
Sathyabama is a former AIADMK MLA who resigned and joined TVK before contesting the by-election under the Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance.
Twenty-two candidates were in the race, including nominees from the DMK, CPI and Naam Tamilar Katchi, making it a five-way contest alongside TVK and AIADMK.
The voting was part of a wider set of by-elections for five Assembly seats in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, as well as a Lok Sabha seat in Assam.
