Vinod Kapri’s Hindi film *Pyre* is scheduled for a theatrical release across India on October 23, 2026. Set in a Himalayan village in Uttarakhand, it follows an ageing couple whose children have left in search of better opportunities, exploring love, family, memory and the effects of migration. The lead roles are played by local residents Padam Singh and Heera Devi, who had no prior acting experience; Kapri said their lived experience brought an authenticity that conventional actors could not have recreated. After premiering at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, the film has screened at international festivals and received 18 awards, including 15 Best Film honors.
