American Airlines and Citi are raising the annual fee on their flagship co-branded card to $695, up from $595, starting August 23, 2026. The Points Guy reports the Citi / AAdvantage Executive card — rebranded as the World Legend Mastercard — is getting its biggest refresh in years, adding new credits and travel perks to justify the higher cost.
The revamped card claims up to $2,300 in annual value, according to NerdWallet. New benefits include a $500 American Airlines Vacations credit, $180 in Lyft credits, and $100 back on inflight and Admirals Club purchases each year.
$500 AA Vacations Credit Works Without Booking a Vacation
The new $500 Vacations credit is split into two chunks. Cardholders get up to $250 back from January through June, then another $250 from July through December. Cardholders who book packages earn 5 to 11 AAdvantage miles per dollar, depending on their elite status. Hotel and car bookings made through AAdvantage Vacations earn a flat 12x miles. That earning rate applies on top of the statement credit, making it one of the richer booking bonuses on the card.
Loyalty Point Milestones Now Reach Up to 40,000 Per Year
The card's Loyalty Points structure got a major upgrade. Cardholders can now earn up to 40,000 bonus Loyalty Points per membership year. New milestones kick in at 50,000, 90,000, 165,000, and 240,000 Loyalty Points earned, with 10,000 bonus points unlocking at each threshold.
Loyalty Points matter because American Airlines uses them to track progress toward elite status. More bonus points means cardholders can reach higher status tiers faster by spending on the card.
