Okay Madam 2 Unleashes Underwater Action and Luxury Cruise Hijacking Six Years Later

The production press conference at CGV Yongsan i-Park Mall included a full ensemble: Park Sung-woong, Park Jin-joo, Ryeo Woon, Uhm Jung-hwa, Bae Jung-nam, Choi Soo-young, and Lee Sang-yoon.
Director Lee Chul-ha described Okay Madam 2 as an “escape from the heat, an escape from reality!” and noted the six-year interval since the first film, with OTT ancillary rights having enabled the sequel.
Six years after the original film drew 1.22 million viewers during the COVID-19 pandemic, Okay Madam 2 is set to hit theaters on August 12 Star News Korea. The sequel reunites star Uhm Jung-hwa — dubbed the "female Tom Cruise" — with director Lee Cheol-ha for a new comedic action adventure on the high seas.
The production press conference took place at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Seoul. Director Lee Cheol-ha and the full cast attended, including Park Sung-woong, Park Jin-joo, Ryeo Woon, Bae Jung-nam, Choi Soo-young, and Lee Sang-yoon Sports Chosun. The story picks up six years after the first film. Former legendary agent Mi-young and her family board a super-luxury cruise — which promptly gets hijacked on the open ocean.
The first Okay Madam was known for its aerial action sequences. The sequel goes in a different direction. Director Lee Cheol-ha says the new film builds a broader, underwater-scale action world set against a tropical blue sea backdrop Star News Korea. The blue sea hanbok-themed cruise setting gives the film a fresh visual identity compared to the original.
Lee described the film as "an escape from the heat, an escape from reality!" Sports Chosun. Uhm Jung-hwa's action-star billing as the "female Tom Cruise" signals the filmmakers are pushing her stunts and screen presence front and center in the marketing campaign.
The original Okay Madam had a rough theatrical run. COVID-era restrictions led to widespread ticket cancellations. Even so, the film found a second life on streaming platforms. Director Lee Cheol-ha said the first film's OTT ancillary rights revenue "was substantial" and directly helped finance the follow-up Sports Chosun.
Lee added that he is "happy to be back after six years" Sports Chosun. The pandemic-era streaming boom essentially saved the franchise. Without that OTT income, a sequel may never have been greenlit at all.
Okay Madam 2 lands on August 12, squarely in South Korea's peak summer moviegoing season Star News Korea. The timing is deliberate. Lee's "escape from the heat" framing pitches the film as light, fun relief for summer audiences. With a recognizable cast and a built-in fanbase from the first film's 1.22 million viewers, the sequel arrives with clear commercial ambitions.
