Regional high school athletes achieve standout performances across volleyball, golf, and football.

Maplewood senior libero Ava Calvert returned to volleyball after an injury sidelined her for the entire 2026 softball season, making her senior campaign especially meaningful as she anchors the Rockets’ defense. In Ohio golf results, Olentangy Orange led one team field at 306, while Teays Valley won another at 298; Teays Valley’s Kroeger was the latter event’s medalist with a 69. The Lansing State Journal’s boys high school athlete-of-the-week poll features an Eastern soccer player who helped secure the program’s first CAAC Red title, a tennis player with a 19-1 record, and a football player who ran for 251 yards and three touchdowns while adding two interceptions.
Before her injury, Calvert had a standout softball performance as a sophomore in 2025, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs in Maplewood’s 5-0 win over Columbiana.
Olentangy’s Hann was the medalist in the event won by Olentangy Orange, shooting a 66.
In the event won by Teays Valley, Hicks shot 74, followed by Sturgell at 77, Griffith at 78 and Hilgenberg at 80.
Eastern’s Ebuela had 11 goals and three assists across the team’s previous two games; in the title-clinching game, he scored five goals and added three assists.
The Redwings’ senior No. 1 singles player followed a week in which he won gold at a Rockford tournament with straight-set victories over Ionia, Mason and Williamston.
