Russian Drone Attack Destroys Indian-Funded Pharmaceutical Plant in Sumy

Kusum Group began in Ukraine in 1994 as a distributor exporting Indian medicines; in 2002, it stopped distributing other companies’ products and began marketing its own brands.
The company is headed by Indian national Rajeev Gupta, and after opening its Sumy facility it established two additional manufacturing plants in India.
The attack occurred amid a broader escalation in drone warfare: Article 4 reported that Russia had been launching dozens of jet-powered Shahed drones daily since the summer, while Ukraine’s air-defence teams struggled to intercept them with drones that were too slow.
Article 4 also reported that Ukraine announced the first combat use that week of its domestically made FP-7 ballistic missile, with a range of about 250 kilometres.
Russian drones struck an Indian-owned pharmaceutical plant in Sumy, Ukraine, killing one person and injuring six others. DNA India reported that the Kusum Group's main facility suffered devastating damage, with preliminary estimates of ₹400 crore in losses. The plant has operated continuously since 2009, producing generic medicines for Ukraine and regional markets despite the ongoing war.
The attack reflects Russia's intensifying drone campaign against Ukrainian targets. Times Now News noted the strike came as Ukraine escalated its own firepower, announcing the first combat use of its domestically made FP-7 ballistic missile with a 250-kilometer range.

Russia has escalated drone attacks dramatically. ABP Live reported that Moscow has been launching dozens of jet-powered Shahed drones daily since summer. Ukraine's air-defense teams struggle to intercept them because their interceptor drones fly too slowly to catch the incoming Russian aircraft.
The pharmaceutical plant was among many civilian targets hit. Ukraine TV News reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy publicly condemned the attack on the Kusum facility, highlighting the toll on commercial operations and workers.
As Russian drones intensify attacks, Ukraine is pushing back with new weapons. ABP Live reported that Ukraine announced its first combat use of the FP-7, a domestically manufactured ballistic missile with a range of about 250 kilometers. The move signals Kyiv's shift toward more independent military capability.
