Driver Killed and Students Injured in Tennessee School Bus Collision

One person died and four others were hospitalized after a head-on collision between a passenger car and a school bus carrying 28 Abingdon High School football players on Highway 91 in Johnson County, Tennessee, around 9:35 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2. The driver of a 2013 Subaru Impreza, 35-year-old Douglas McMillan, was pronounced dead at the scene after crossing the center line and striking the bus. The bus driver and three student-athletes suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital, while the rest of the team was reported safe.

According to Tennessee Highway Patrol's preliminary account, the Subaru driver crossed the center line and struck the bus head-on. McMillan was the only occupant in the passenger vehicle. A separate crash connected to the incident also caused minor injuries, and the highway patrol continues investigating the circumstances that led to the collision.
