Midtown robbery suspect arrested after stealing police car and crashing on interstate

Phelan Thorpe, a 31-year-old man wanted for a violent robbery in Midtown Atlanta, has been arrested after stealing a police car and leading to a crash on a Georgia interstate. Thorpe is accused of following a woman from the Midtown MARTA station to a crosswalk and demanding her purse and phone, leading to an altercation which resulted in a physical altercation. While police were at the scene, Thorpe allegedly stole a patrol vehicle parked outside a home and fled, leading the Georgia State Patrol to Clayton County where he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into tanker trucks and another commercial vehicles. He is now facing multiple charges including robbery, simple battery, second-degree criminal damage to property, second degree hijacking of a motor vehicle, and felony theft by taking, entering automobile, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.
