GOVT: Hilltop sold 28,975 shares in the first quarter, reducing its iShares U.S. Treasury Bond ETF position to 297,111 shares, worth about $6.81 million.
TLT: The firm increased its stake in iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF by 33,080 shares to a total of 100,631, making it roughly 0.8% of Hilltop Holdings’ portfolio and about $8.72 million in value, ranking as the 18th biggest position.
DGRO: Hilltop added 30,137 shares, boosting its DGRO stake to 45,736 shares and roughly $3.21 million in value, a 193.2% rise for the quarter.
TIP: The position in iShares TIPS Bond ETF expanded by 48,487 shares to 72,252 shares, about $7.97 million in value, representing 0.7% of Hilltop’s holdings and placing TIP as the 21st largest position.
EPP: Hilltop established a new stake in iShares MSCI Pacific ex Japan ETF with 51,070 shares valued at roughly $2.71 million, signaling broader international exposure.
Hilltop Holdings Inc. made sweeping changes to its ETF holdings in the first quarter, shifting hundreds of millions of dollars across fixed income and international equity funds. The firm added new positions, slashed others, and nearly tripled some stakes — a sign of a deliberate portfolio overhaul, according to Watchlist News.
The most striking moves came in inflation-protected bonds and dividend growth funds. Hilltop's position in the iShares TIPS Bond ETF surged 204%, while its stake in the iShares Core Dividend Growth ETF jumped 193.2%. At the same time, it opened a brand-new position in a Pacific equity fund, signaling a push into international markets, Ticker Report reported.
Hilltop sold 28,975 shares of the iShares U.S. Treasury Bond ETF (GOVT) during the quarter. That cut its position to 297,111 shares, worth about $6.81 million. The fund tracks short-to-medium term U.S. government bonds, so the trim suggests Hilltop pulled back from that part of the bond market.
At the same time, the firm went the other direction with long-term bonds. It added 33,080 shares of the iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT), growing that stake by 49%. Hilltop now holds 100,631 TLT shares, worth roughly $8.72 million. That makes TLT the firm's 18th largest position, equal to about 0.8% of its total portfolio, according to Watchlist News.
Hilltop's biggest percentage move was in inflation-protected bonds. The firm added 48,487 shares of the iShares TIPS Bond ETF (TIP), pushing its total to 72,252 shares. The position is now worth about $7.97 million. TIPS bonds pay investors more when inflation rises, so this move may reflect concern about rising prices.
TIP now ranks as Hilltop's 21st largest holding, making up about 0.7% of the portfolio. The 204% increase in a single quarter is one of the sharpest position changes in the disclosure. Combined with the TLT increase, Hilltop now holds over $16 million in Treasury-related ETFs, according to Ticker Report.
Hilltop added 30,137 shares of the iShares Core Dividend Growth ETF (DGRO) in Q1. That brought its total to 45,736 shares, a 193.2% jump from the prior quarter. The position is now valued at roughly $3.21 million. DGRO focuses on U.S. companies that consistently grow their dividends over time, according to Watchlist News.
The move into DGRO fits a broader pattern in the disclosure. Hilltop appears to be building exposure to income-generating assets — both through bonds and dividend-paying stocks. The near-tripling of this stake in a single quarter stands out as one of the most aggressive moves in the filing.
Hilltop opened a brand-new position in the iShares MSCI Pacific ex Japan ETF (EPP), buying 51,070 shares worth about $2.71 million. The fund gives exposure to stocks in countries like Australia, Hong Kong, and Singapore — but excludes Japan. This is the firm's first reported stake in this fund.
The firm also bought 74,453 shares of the iShares MSCI Australia ETF (EWA) and added to its SPDR Bloomberg 1-3 Month T-Bill ETF (BIL) position by 58.1%, picking up 43,020 shares, according to Ticker Report. Together, these moves suggest Hilltop is spreading its bets across both domestic and Asia-Pacific markets while keeping a cash-like buffer in short-term T-bills.
