Dayana Yastremska dominated Maja Chwalińska 6-3, 6-1 at the China Open in Beijing, advancing to the third round of a WTA 1000 event for the first time since February 2026. WTA praised Yastremska's performance as "Incredible," highlighting her "pure power" on court. Chwalińska, fresh off a semifinal run in Singapore, never found her rhythm against the Ukrainian's aggressive play.
Yastremska will next face Austria's Sinja Kraus, a close friend of Chwalińska who partners with her regularly in doubles. The two have won together at multiple tournaments, including reaching the Monterrey Open quarterfinals in August.
The match stayed competitive early as Chwalińska leveled at 2-2 in the opening set. But Yastremska seized control from there, winning four straight games to close out the first set 6-3. Her offensive tennis overwhelmed Chwalińska's defense.
The second set was no contest. Yastremska raced to a 4-0 lead and cruised to a 6-1 victory. Chwalińska had no answers for Yastremska's pace and power throughout the match.
This win marks Yastremska's first third-round appearance at a WTA 1000 event since the Qatar TotalEnergies Open in Doha in February 2026. The China Open is one of the year's most prestigious tournaments, featuring a 96-player field with all 32 seeded competitors receiving first-round byes.
Reaching the third round puts Yastremska among the tournament's strongest remaining players and signals rising form on the elite circuit.
Yastremska's next opponent, Sinja Kraus of Austria, shares a close bond with the eliminated Chwalińska. The two often team up in doubles play and have competed as partners across multiple events this season. Their friendship adds an interesting dynamic to the upcoming matchup.
