Several Cities Host Fall Festivals and Swimming Events for Dogs and Owners

At Dinuba Dog Days, adoption fees will be waived, and event coordinator Heather Leiferman said the event also aims to educate residents about keeping dogs healthy.
Dinuba’s dog contest registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and costs $10; categories include best fetch, best costume and doggie musical chairs. Free hot dogs will also be provided by the Dinuba Lions Club.
At Rock Island’s Tricks and Treats, local vendors are expected to offer pup cups, dog treats, caricatures and grooming services. Dogs must be leashed outside the fenced dog park, have current licenses and vaccinations, and be cleaned up after.
At Kissimmee’s Barktoberfest, owners may accompany their dogs into the pool but can enter only to knee depth and are not allowed to swim.
Three communities across the country are hosting dog-focused fall festivals this October, giving pet owners and their furry friends a chance to celebrate the season together. Events in Dinuba, California, Rock Island, Illinois, and Kissimmee, Florida, will feature dog parades, swimming, contests, and adoption opportunities throughout the month.
Dinuba is hosting Dog Days on October 3, featuring a dog parade, contests, and adoption opportunities with waived adoption fees. Event coordinator Heather Leiferman said the event aims to educate residents about keeping dogs healthy. Contest registration starts at 10:30 a.m. and costs $10 per entry, with categories including best fetch, best costume, and doggie musical chairs.
The free event will also include pet services like vaccinations and microchipping. The Dinuba Lions Club will hand out free hot dogs to attendees. Local vendors are expected to offer grooming services and pet products throughout the day.
Rock Island is hosting Tricks and Treats on October 3 at the newly opened Eleanor Wallace Dog Park. The free event invites dogs and owners to wear Halloween costumes and make paw-print crafts together. Dogs must be leashed outside the fenced park area and have current licenses and vaccinations.
Local vendors will offer pup cups, dog treats, caricatures, and grooming services throughout the event. Owners are required to clean up after their dogs. The event provides a low-cost way for pet owners to celebrate fall with their animals at a brand-new community space.
Kissimmee's Barktoberfest on October 10 allows dogs to swim at the Bob Makinson Aquatic Center. Owners must bring current vaccination records, and all dogs will be screened for aggression before entering the pool. Owners can accompany their dogs into the water but only to knee depth and cannot swim themselves.
The event combines fall festivities with water recreation for pets. Dogs must pass temperament screening to ensure safety for all animals at the aquatic center. This gives pet owners a unique opportunity to exercise their dogs during the cooler October weather.
