UFC 330 Set for August 15: Makhachev Battles Garry, Dern Faces Robertson for Titles

UFC confirmed the main bout will be a five-round championship fight: Islam Makhachev vs. Ian Garry will headline UFC 330 (Aug. 15, 2026) at Philadelphia’s Xfinity Mobile Arena on Paramount+.
Makhachev’s run into this welterweight title defense is being framed as unprecedented momentum: after a shock knockout loss early in his UFC career (to Adriano Martins), he’s been on a 16-fight winning streak and is ranked No. 1 pound-for-pound.
The Robertson-Dern strawweight matchup adds specific recent form and ranking context: Robertson is described as No. 5 in the strawweight division and coming off five consecutive wins, most recently a win over Amanda Lemos.
Zhang Weili’s vacancy is clarified with a concrete target: the champion left the strawweight title to pursue a fight with flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko, after which Dern won the vacant belt by defeating Virna Jandiroba at UFC 321.
The UFC officially announced that Islam Makhachev will defend his welterweight title against No. 1-ranked contender Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330 on August 15 at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, streaming live on Paramount+ Forbes. It is the promotion's first major event under its new deal with Paramount Global, and Dana White called bringing the UFC to Philadelphia with "a card of this magnitude on Paramount+ a game changer for the sport" Boxing News.
The card stacks two title fights in one night. Strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern makes her first defense against No. 5-ranked Gillian Robertson in the co-main event Yahoo Sports. Esteban Ribovics vs. Edson Barboza and Tresean Gore vs. Vicente Luque also appear on the card Bet365 News.
Islam Makhachev has not lost since October 2015, when Adriano Martins knocked him out at UFC 192 Boxing News. He ran off 16 straight wins after that, clearing out the lightweight division before moving up to welterweight. He beat Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322 to claim the 170-pound title. He enters UFC 330 as the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the sport.
Ian Machado Garry is his most stylistically tricky test yet. Garry is long, fast, and fights at high volume — a different puzzle from the grapplers Makhachev has dominated. Opening betting lines list Makhachev as a -350 favorite, with Garry as a +280 underdog Forbes. Garry said on The MMA Hour: "The dynasty of the Dagestanis ends with me. I'm too fast, too long, and too clinical for Islam."
Zhang Weili dominated the strawweight division for years. In late 2025, she vacated the title to chase a fight with flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko, leaving the 115-pound belt open Yahoo Sports. Mackenzie Dern stepped in and beat Virna Jandiroba by unanimous decision at UFC 321 in March 2026 to claim the vacant title.
Some analysts argue Dern is a "placeholder champion" while Zhang remains active in the promotion Bet365 News. But Dern's first defense is a real test. Gillian Robertson arrives on a five-fight finishing streak, with her most recent win coming over former title challenger Amanda Lemos. The fight is listed as nearly even, with both fighters at -110 on the betting market Forbes.
UFC 330 is the first major pay-per-view under the UFC's new multi-billion dollar deal with Paramount Global, which finalized in May 2026 after a seven-year run with ESPN Forbes. The event is projected to draw 1 million or more concurrent viewers. Industry analysts say the card's success will shape TKO Group Holdings' stock price for Q3 2026.
The Philadelphia Mayor's Office welcomed the event and projected a large economic boost for the South Philadelphia Sports Complex Boxing News. Xfinity Mobile Arena holds more than 20,000 fans. The projected PPV price on Paramount+ is $79.99. For the platform, UFC 330 is as much a stress test of streaming infrastructure as it is a sporting event.
Edson Barboza is a veteran draw who keeps long-time fans engaged. His opponent, Esteban Ribovics, finishes 88 percent of his fights — the highest finish rate on the card Bet365 News. That number makes their bout the statistical favorite for Fight of the Night. Vicente Luque, one of the most reliable action fighters in the welterweight division, faces Tresean Gore in another scheduled undercard bout Yahoo Sports.
