Notre Dame and BYU Set for October 17 Primetime Showdown in Provo

The Oct. 17 game will be Notre Dame’s third primetime kickoff of the season; its earlier 7:30 p.m. games were the season opener against Wisconsin at Lambeau Field and a Week 3 home game against Michigan State.
The matchup will be the 10th all-time meeting between the programs. Notre Dame leads 7-2 overall, though its two wins in 2012 and 2013 were vacated, leaving a 5-2 record in NCAA record books.
If both teams retain their top-10 rankings, the game would be the first at LaVell Edwards Stadium to feature two top-10 teams.
BYU’s local radio broadcast will be carried on KSL NewsRadio at 102.7 FM and 1160 AM.
Notre Dame and BYU will square off in primetime on October 17, with the game kicking off at 5:30 p.m. Mountain Time (7:30 p.m. Eastern) on ABC. Both teams enter the matchup undefeated and ranked in the top 10—Notre Dame sits at No. 3 while BYU is No. 8—setting up a potential clash of elite programs in Provo.
The game marks Notre Dame's first trip to Provo since 2004 and is the opening game of a two-game series with BYU, who will visit South Bend in 2027. If both teams maintain their top-10 rankings, it will be the first game at LaVell Edwards Stadium to feature two top-10 opponents.
The October 17 kickoff represents Notre Dame's third primetime game of the season. The Fighting Irish opened their schedule with a 7:30 p.m. Eastern kickoff against Wisconsin at Lambeau Field, followed by a Week 3 home game against Michigan State that also started at 7:30 p.m. Eastern.
Notre Dame and BYU have met nine times previously, with the Fighting Irish leading the all-time series 7-2. However, NCAA record books show a different mark: 5-2 in Notre Dame's favor. The discrepancy stems from two vacated victories—wins in 2012 and 2013 that were erased from official records due to NCAA violations.
If both teams stay ranked in the top 10 heading into their October 17 clash, the game would become the first matchup at LaVell Edwards Stadium to feature two top-10 teams. The historic nature of the game underscores the significance of this early-season meeting between two major college football programs.
ABC will broadcast the matchup nationwide. BYU fans can follow the action locally on KSL NewsRadio, which carries the Cougars' broadcast on 102.7 FM and 1160 AM in Utah.
