Boston Intersection Crash Leaves Pedestrian and Cyclist Hospitalized Near University Campus

A witness said the cyclist was riding in the street’s painted bike lane when the collision occurred. The scene later included the cordoned-off right lane, bike lane and west-side crosswalk.
Witness Charles Aluvale said the pedestrian was breathing but unresponsive and twitching after the collision; he also reported that the cyclist had fallen face-first, was bleeding near the right eyebrow and said they could not feel their face.
The Boston Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation, according to a statement from police spokesperson Sgt. Detective John Boyle.
The intersection is a key pedestrian crossing: the crosswalks there are the only access to the BU Central Green Line station. City officials counted 1,712 people riding bikes on Commonwealth Avenue a few blocks away during a survey last September, when bikes made up about 12% of vehicular traffic there.
