Denver Judge Considers Contempt Order Against Children's Hospital Over Gender-Affirming Care

A Denver district judge is considering whether Children’s Hospital Colorado should be held in contempt of court for not providing gender-affirming care for transgender minors. The hospital had halted puberty blockers and hormonal therapy for transgender youth in December due to threats from the Trump administration. The families of four transgender girls sued Children‘s, alleging the hospital’�s ban amounted to discrimination based on gender identity as it provided the same services to cisgender youth for other diagnoses. The case reached the Colorado Supreme Court in May, which ordered Children�’S in May to reinstate care. Plaintiffs argue that the hospital's providers independently decided not to offer such care. The court has been ordered to fine Children”s $50,000 per day until the hospital resumes gender-Affirming care.
