Indian Athletes Advance to Multiple Finals and Win Kabaddi Gold at Asian Games

At the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, India advanced two athletes to the men’s long jump final, with Murali Sreeshankar recording 7.84 meters and David Patturaj Solomon 7.62. Vithya Ramraj and Anu Raghavan qualified for the women’s 400-meter hurdles final, while Nandhini Kongan advanced in the 100-meter hurdles and Harita Bhadra and Unnathi Bolland reached the 200-meter final. Tejaswin Shankar fell from first to third in the decathlon standings after the discus, with the pole vault and javelin remaining. India also won men’s kabaddi gold, beating Iran 40-34 after trailing at halftime; elsewhere, Manju Rani finished sixth in the women’s marathon race walk and Priyanka Goswami was disqualified.
In the women’s 400-meter hurdles heats, Vithya Ramraj clocked a season-best 55.73 seconds and Anu Raghavan ran a personal-best 55.84; both finished second in their heats.
India had a difficult day in kurash: Vishal lost his men’s +90 kg quarterfinal 5-0 to Thailand’s Kunathip Yea-On, while Sangita Balhara, Bharti and Yash Kumar also lost their bouts.
Before the discus, Tejaswin Shankar had taken 932 points from a 14.33-second finish in the 110-meter hurdles and led the decathlon with 5,270 points. His 36.77-meter discus throw left him with 5,869 points, behind competitors from China and Japan.
Nandhini Kongan qualified for the 100-meter hurdles final after finishing fourth in her heat in 13.48 seconds; Jyothi Yarraji did not start her heat, leaving Kongan as India’s sole finalist in the event.
