Kenya Court Orders Former Land Official to Forfeit KSh426 Million in Assets

Kenya’s High Court has ordered former Kilifi Principal Land Registrar Felix Mecha Nyakundi, his wife and associated companies to forfeit assets worth about KSh426.85 million to the government after they failed to adequately explain how the wealth was acquired. The forfeiture covers funds in bank and M-Pesa accounts, properties in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi and Thika, three vehicles and cash recovered during a search. The EACC said its investigation found assets and transactions totaling about KSh771.89 million from 2013 to 2024, while the defendants satisfactorily accounted for only KSh58.17 million; the court cited the disparity with Nyakundi’s legitimate income in ordering recovery under anti-corruption law.
