Silverstone will also serve as an executive producer on the project. She joins original writer-director Amy Heckerling and producer Robert Lawrence in that role, according to Morning Honey. Heckerling's involvement signals the sequel will stay close to the spirit of the original film.

The series is written and produced by Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and Jordan Weiss under their production company Fake Empire.
